Unveiled in 1956, the Day-Date is the older sibling of the Datejust, the Rolex watch par excellence. With the world’s first wrist chronometer that indicates the day of the week (spelled out in full, in twenty-six languages including, of course, Italian), the Day-Date matches the sportiness of a waterproof case back and crown with the practicality of a metal bracelet, which at the time was definitely unconventional. Since day one, it became the symbol of Rolex class and elegance. Suffice it to think that the claim of a famous advertising campaign in the 1950s was “Men Who Guide the Destinies of the World Wear Rolex Watches”.
The “Day-Date, the Presidential Rolex” book narrates the world of this extraordinary model through an extremely detailed history and most importantly, through a brightly coloured gallery of amazing images featuring over 160 timepieces – some of which are highly rare and one of a kind examples – from the earliest Day-Dates manufactured in the 1950s to more modern pieces. The making of this project involved a meticulous research and selection of the objects, many of which travelled the world to reach Rome under the photographer’s lens; an attention for details so as to enhance the beauty and the peculiarities of each single watch.
